And So It Is

And so it is on a day just like today, we gather at the water’s edge for, you see, our sailor is making his final trip.
In the gloaming, he pushes off and rows with strong determination toward those who have gone before.
Doubt in ourselves and our own lives, grief for the sailor’s passage, uncertainty as to our own continuity, are set aside.
For, as we turn away, we see at our feet, a bottle. Inside, a note on a piece of sail.
Thinking only of those he left behind, our sailor has written three words...
All is well.
