HOW I WRITE
Each day I start with the best of intentions - 1000 words.
And, each day is a test of wills between my need to work on story and the intrusions of daily life and the distractions right outside my office window.
The sordid background of C.J. Booth, Author
I am a product of a private school education, kindergarten through 12th grade. And proud of it. And fortunate. I was blessed with quality teachers and supported by parents whose sole goal was their child's learning opportunities, of which there were many.
Attended three colleges, but the best thing was my love and learning of broadcasting. In fact, I drove from my high school graduation to my first job in radio and worked radio and TV while going through college. .Broadcasting, - it was and is the best low paying job you can have.
FILM & VIDEO...
The best low paying job you can have if you're not in broadcasting is toiling away in the film industry. I started by mixing soundtracks for films, moved to recording location sound for film, graduated to shooting second camera, moved on to own my own video production company which was the best low paying...never mind.
I have been blessed to study with, and be schooled by, so many accomplished authors and teachers - Judith Guest (Ordinary People), Rebecca Hill (A Killing Time in St. Cloud), Christopher Short (The Black Cat), Gary Braver (Tunnel Vision, Skin Deep), Elizabeth Engstrom (Lizzie Borden), and screenwriting with David S. Freeman (Beyond Structure).
They did their best. Don't blame them.
This is my brain on words. I am the ball.
This is my distraction - the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
